The Bold Beauty of the Electric Bass
The bass guitar is a stringed instrument that is usually played with a pick or by plucking the strings with the fingers or thumb. The modern bass guitar is similar in appearance to an electric guitar, except the bass has a longer neck and scale length. The most common bass, the four-string, has replaced the use of most double bass guitars, which play one octave lower.
The origins of the bass guitar date back to the 1930s, but it was not until the 1950s when Leo Fender developed the first mass-produced electric bass. From this moment on the bass became widely copied by others such as Gibson and Rickenbacker. By the late 1950s, guitar players including Paul McCartney of Beatle's fame and Elvis Presley's bass player, Bill Black, were all using electric bass guitars.
Thanks to Paul Tutmarc for developing the first electric bass, these instruments continue to appear in all types of music ranging from pop and jazz all the way to classical music.
